    Scandinavia

I am thinking of spending my next travel in a Scandinavian country simply because it's a region I've yet to visit. I know very little about the region so this is going to be a bit of an adventure, and I figured I'd also ask opinions on the various options while I am reading up Wikitravel

    Couple of notes:

    1. I am not adverse to walking/hiking, and I highly value beautiful sights.

    2. Night-life in the commonly used sense is not important to me. I don't need pubs/clubs, but I am totally up for staying up for the midnight sun for instance.

    3. I do not drive, so decent public transportation is a big plus.

Cheers. I'll add more questions as it pops to my mind

I personally love Stockholm and try to visit annually, but then again it is frighteningly expensive.

I was worried about that the first time I went, but tbh I didn't find stuff to be any more expensive than London really.

That said, I was maybe skewed because I was staying with friends: perhaps it's just hotels that are the killer? It's a beautiful city though - hoping to go back again later this year.

Hmmm. I've heard that said before too. Perhaps it's just that I always stay in Kungsholmen where my friends live, which is certainly upmarket. Last time I went I order a round of 5 drinks in one bar near there and the bill was £50! Admitedly that was the extreme, and most beers came in about the £5-£6 mark when out and about.

    Re: Scandinavia

I seem to recall paying between 4 and 6 quid for a beer, which ties with my experience of central London. A decent meal came in at around £15-20 a head, which again ties in with London for me.

    Re: Scandinavia

Scandinavia is damned expensive - it's also a great place to visit - I'd recommend Bergen in Norway. I love that place, try to go by boat if you can, that way you get the fjords either on the way in or out and as far as I'm concerned, there's not a more beautiful view on the planet.
