Most of the people I knew who went to LSE were either rich or massively in debt.

I don't get the problem with having a debt that nobody is ever going to ask you to pay back unless you can afford it. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, not only that but is there anywhere else you can get a loan at 1.5% interest rate? (BoE base rate + 1%)

I started uni before top up fees were introduced, but my student debt would have been around £10-15k when I left uni, no idea what it is now.

when i finished i was in excess of 20k and that was with the first round of top up fees...

I just find it hilarious that they apparently consider £9k as exclusive, and £8,500 as all-inclusive.

Hopefully now students will consider value for money and return on investment when they make a choice to go to university. That degree in travel and tourism was an expensive waste of taxpayers money.

Anyway regardless of thoughts on the fees and how the new system actually makes it easier for people from poorer backgrounds to go to uni..got to agree, it's a bit crazy for them to boast about charging just £500 less than the rest of them..makes pretty much no difference

True but hopefully they wont want to turn the thread into another tuition fee debate I removed it as i'm in favour of them, disagree totally that it causes a 2 tier system, and posted as such..before deciding I didn't want to kick off the debate again

I think LSE has the highest proportion of non-EU students of any UK university (around 40%?) so they are possibly one of the few top tier universities who could afford to drop fees *slightly*. I agree £500 reduction is a gimmick though.
