    Ah ok. Death it is then . Wasps are the skinheads of the insect world anyway. All they do is menace and sting. Why don't they get a real job.

    I've been told a good way to get things out of the walls/roof etc... Is a smoke bomb but I think that may be a bit OTT for a wasps nest.

    @peterb - Thanks for that but you are right it is a bit expensive, but if I can find it cheaper, it may be worth the purchase!

    If they're not a nuisance then leave them - they'll die off in winter and not return. Seems a bit early for wasps though - sure it's not mason bees? They're out in force round us at the moment.

    Wasps' nests don't survive winter, so you could leave it until nature takes its course (red in tooth and claw and all that).

    You do have to watch out that the queen (who does survive) doesn't start a new colony in your attic next year though...

    They may not die off at all if it stays nice and warm in that cavity.

    http://museumvictoria.com.au/wasps/pests.asp

    "Only European wasp queens survive the European winter, meaning that each year, the wasp nest begins with a single individual. In Australia, the temperatures are such that the worker European wasps can survive the winter. This means that if a new queens remains in her old nest, the nest does not begin with a single individual, but with a new queen and several thousand workers. These nests are called 'overwintering' nests and by summer may have increased in size to house over 100,000 worker wasps."
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

    Looks like smoke bomb/DDT time then. (Oh no, not DDT, it has been banned - and not for spamming )

    @DannyM

    This might be cheaper...

    Agreed. There aren't many 'cute' insects in my opinion, but these guys are definitely cute
