Sounds off-tempo, maybe it's just me though.
Nice, thanks.
PS watching the notes for a while, then looking at something else... weird.
This is neither a canon, nor is it anything to do with the programming language

Piano Hero?
Reminds me of when a friend from years back introduced me to MOD files and user created sequenced dance music. It was kind of like that but instead of notes it was sample tracks, then when the samples in each track were played back they were adjusted to be a specified note. So you had streams of Hex values scrolling down the screen and being played. It was a bit like that video crossed with The Matrix
This has been around for a while though, check out these arrangements of video game music in midi - this is what this sort of software is really meant for:
http://www.youtube.com/user/hattariyaro the Chrono Trigger one is awe-inspiring.
The Synaesthesia software that goes behind this is pretty interesting, certainly if you can play the piano and want something close to a tab. I'm not sure whether I approve of it though, learning to read sheet music is very useful and sometimes if I listen to some piano playing, I pull up the manuscript and follow along - which makes their comment "What if you could see music in a different way?" a bit laughable.
Come to think about it, I reckon it's easier to make the effort to learn how to read music and then get good at sight reading than learn based on a guitar hero method. Once you get good, you shouldn't need to worry about what note goes where, you just need to worry about how to play it fast enough!
It's probably good for newbies, but it teaches bad technique and means you're stuffed without the application, like those stupid light up keyboards.
You can visualise any midi file you want with this http://www.musanim.com/
And you can get Michael Maxwell's canon-finale here. Pachelbel rocks.
@Whiternoise: Incidentally, I was going to share this link on FB with the comment along the line of "I know some of you who were lucky enough to learn the instrument will cringe, but this is what I've been looking for". This is like *some* guitar players cringing at Guitar Heroes.
I remember looking for an application like this a few years back when I was really into various rhythm games. I do not think it will substitute learning "properly", but it will provide me with hours of fun, and since I can not realistically expect to become a pianist, it's fine as long as I know that.
Also note that the application does allow for displaying a music sheet instead. I don't expect that most people would bother with it, and I question if it's even an appropriate learning tool (alongside lessons), but it is there
I was tempted to get a copy of it to see how well it works, and to be fair to the developers - it's marketed as a game! I love guitar hero and rhythm games in general, so a piano based one is cool.
Guitar hero works because the guitar is light, easy to carry around and only has 5 buttons - you can play it on your lap in front of the TV with no problems. With a piano, unless you're playing something simple, I'm not sure how easy it is to map guitar hero style bars to the keys - especially for something like Pachelbel. I was excited when I saw Rock Band had added a keyboard attachment, but I ended up deciding that it would be too much of a faff.
Not sure what the point of it showing a sheet is, if you've got the sheet you'd want to play it! What is useful is programs that will convert MIDI files into sheet music which you can then play, so that's a handy feature.
I'm getting a proper keyboard for my birthday to take to university for my final year (weighted keys are sodding pricey!) - I've been getting urges to practice
I saw this expecting someone to have written out Canon in a programming language to use system beeps to make the song
