Most people here don't seem to care, but Miku's popularity even caught on here amongst the Japanese pop culture / otaku community, quite evidently when you see the number of Miku cosplayers at various Japanese event (like the MCM last month and upcoming Hyper-Japan http://www.hyperjapan.co.uk).

I didn't even know about Miku until I saw her getting cosplayed a lot and asked about the character and I was really surprised that to find that a mascot for a voice synthesizing application can become so popular (only in Japan I guess).
