HP PCs and WebOS development are going the way of the Dodo!

It seems after decades of making PCs ,HP is going to stop making PCs:

WebOS development is also being stopped meaning the end of what is left of Palm too!

Can't say I have really ever had any HP desktops (maybe 2 in my last job) I have never been a huge fan of their servers either to be honest, maybe the DL380 G4 was pretty good.

It seems they are trying to become a software only company. It looks somewhat risky. Even IBM only ditched its consumer PC business.

However, looking at their past CEOs it is not surprising.

It seems that their server business will be maintained:

It's not a huge surprise, but it is a shame on the hardware front. WebOS was doomed from the start - far far too much mature competition around for it ever to get a foothold in any marketplace really.

HP have been facing so much competition from the likes of Dell in their business PC market that they either had to do something drastic with their pricing or retreat - i've lost count of the number of businesses i've seen or worked for that have made the switch..some pretty big ones too.

Luckily for them they will make enough money from their SAN/Server/Patent arms to survive; that is always where the money came from anyway..but still, a shame to see them drop out!

LeftHand isn't the market leader in ther SAN business, Procurve isn't the market leader in switches, Proliant isn't the market leader in servers. HP will need to work hard but I do see a chance for them with Lefthand networks.

Re: HP PCs and WebOS development are going the way of the Dodo!

I had a HP rep into my work to get me to move from Dell. Was showing off their tablet and how the webos would be introduced into laptops and pc's in the next few years. Guess that is in the scrapbin now.

HP have bought so many good things, and killed them like a bag full of puppies in a lake of tears.

Bought loads of their PCs in the my last job, excellent specs for the price :/

Can't say I'm going to miss them on a personal level though, their consumer PCs were terrible
