    'A Thousand Pounds, you say?'

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YALE-FRONT...item3f08ce086d

These locks have been on ebay for some while. Are they solid gold? A tax dodge? Am I missing something?

Even odder, there is a second listing at £1,110.95...

Re: 'A Thousand Pounds, you say?'

If you look at the ones sold they are at a much lower price. It could be simply they ran out of stock and will put the price back down when new stock arrives again. It avoids them having to relist the items again.

Not entirely sure why they'd do that, those locks were discontinued by Yale back in February IIRC.

it can also be the listing tool that does the work for the seller, when it expires it can put some strange prices up for the auto renewal.

Hmm. So in saying "This lock has been designed to replace The Original Yale Lock", in fact there's now a replacement for that replacement?

This was my previous favourite random ebay item, 238 tapes "UNTESTED BUT IN POOR CONDITION LABLES TORN & WORE PLUS SOME ARE DIRTY" (sellers words), photographed in a pile on the carpet with a quite possibly naked person standing in the corner. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/238-X-8-TR...-/270779546533

Oh and you had to not go through the checkout and pay the £4 quoted post as it wasn't really £4, it was £25.

    I love ebay

The reason postage was actually £25 is that on some categories it won't let you put an actual postage price, it guesses it for you, based on some silly code that says 1 tape is £4 to post, and doesn't take into consideration bundles.

I worked this out recently when selling bundles of Blurays, in the end i just put the postage cost in the price, but doing so will bump the amount of commission Ebay receives, but i'm sure that is their plan.

actually its a really good way to shift cash around!

You can move money and have a legit reason for having it if you sell crap on ebay to a "buyer"

anyway I can't be trusted with dead locks, I lock myself out everytime.

Welk, not quite... all it means is it's compatable with the traditional style, 3 fixing hole lock, instead of the modern 4 hole ones that use a plate to fix them to the door.

It's still an odd eBay ad though!

Thanks, that's all very interesting have never come across that myself, must've only sold stuff that it wouldn't apply to, so I had no idea. I've just tried a mock listing myself and read up on it http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/co..._shipping.html - so I'll know now, if I ever sell anything that applies to.

@ Jay, how do you lock yourself out with an internal deadlocking lock?

Re: 'A Thousand Pounds, you say?'

A small p.s. on the lock theme:

I ordered a (non £1000) lock, and this morning I received it: it was the wrong model, and the wrong colour.

Contacted seller about returns and this is the gist:

Me: "This item as received this morning is the wrong style of lock from the description/picture - you have sent a Yale High Security lock with safety handle, in chrome finish.
I ordered a Standard Security lock in brass (selected from the options available at the time)."

Seller's reply: "sorry it seems that the wrong item was despatched, if you are willing to keep this item we can offer you £3 discount alternatively we can collect the item for a full refund ( as we only have the brass at the moment)

    Good eh.

    Well, I saw this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Akasa-AK-M...item2561b8a470

And it reminded me of this thread. The thing that shocks me is it says "29 sold" The sold ones were £8-50.

Same sort of thing as Cat-the-Fifth explained to me. It must go on more than I ever suspected, my ebay knowledge has big gaps obviously (as most things).

I bought a Yale Lock on Ebay in July, 5 lever Brass for the Front Door, cost me £14 incl. and was an utter bargain.

That discount thing usually means they have run out of an option and just send the wrong item regardless, i bet 9/10 times the customer just accepts the £3 refund.
