Re: Sad News for all Bletchley Park fans...

    oh that's sad sad news

thank you for pointing it out, as the man was a star, and his work in the computer museum has taken me to Bletchley twice, and the sheer scale of trying to replicate the effort of a wartime struggle as part of a rebuild is not to be under estimated.

Lorenz was a beast of a code... and it dwarfed Engima for complexity... and yet it's not quite so famous/infamous.

And the Colossus was the heath robinson contraption to help the super-hero brainboxes suss it out. The sheer scale of 10 Colossus'.... (Colossi? ) makes my head hurt.. and one day,,,, years later.. Tony Sale decided to try to keep the history alive.

What a task... it daunts me.

RIP old chap. And thank you... for having the sheer determination to keep stuff alive for my kid to see when he grow up a tad.

    Totally gutting
Met the chap on at least 3 occasions and he was an absolute star. Full of stories and if you were lucky he'd tell you why there was a squirrel stuffed toy about

    Best wishes to his family.

It was the way he just made me want to go and build something, his natural enthusiasm was infectious! (based on meeting him only 3 times)

That is sad news. I've not been to see BP in a while, I really must try and go again soon, and take the family with me as well.

    Rest in peace Tony Sale.

But - what an amazing legacy to leave behind. I'm hope there will be a memorial to him at BP.

There is, its called the Colossus rebuild

In addition to the rebuild he was one of the people who was responsible for getting Bletchley Park to the state it was in today - I first visited in 2000 while he was still deep in the rebuild and there was a lot less to see !

Re: Sad News for all Bletchley Park fans...

I just heard a quick snippet at the end of PM on radio 4 this evening that mentioned a quiz on Sunday during 'Broadcasting House' http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0144rqm - prize to win is a used part of the Colossus machine.
I am not sure what form the quiz will take but some of you might want to listen in.
