Lightbulb Hitch Hiker's Guide film FINALLY in production?

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371724/

I know this has been rumoured for years (even when Douglas Adams was alive he was involved in several abortive attempts to get the film version made, as documented in The Salmon of Doubt) - but I just happened to come across this whilst poking around in IMDB!

Given the cast, I am so very afraid of what they're going to do to it though.

Personally, most of the cast seem alright, nice to see some brits in there like Bill Nighy and Martin Freeman. And Malkovich is a really good actor, so fingers crossed. Stil, I've got the TV series on DVD ro console myself with if it all goes wrong

It will not live up to the book, mind you as he says himself, none of the series, book or the radio shows were written exactly the same so at least you may get a new take on things.

it could turn out to be utterly rubbish thanks to the americans over-doing the explosions and things, that and the lack of understanding of what irony is...

The risk is substantial... but it could end up good aswell, even though that chance is much smaller

Sad to say it but there's more chance of seeing this made quickly now that DNA has passed on. A lot of the hold-ups were down to him not being happy and wanting it to be just "right". Sadly now he's gone so have the objections and the greed-heads are going full steam ahead.

I never read the book, but watched the series when I was little more than a twinkle in a parish cats eye, and I loved it.

My first glimpse of comedy-Sci Fi, and although it was later eclipsed by Red Dwarf, I still remember it fondly.

Film version? Needs to be in the same style, i.e. a pause whilst the narater explains what a Zygonian Eye-Ball Fish is, with green line drawings.

You should really read the book Vaul, that's where you'll find the true spirit of the story. One of my favourite books it is. And that's a good judgement for a book since I normally don't like to read books much at all

For those interested - Filming started 4 weeks ago, and you can find the official weblog here:

    http://hitchhikers.movies.go.com/hitchblog/blog.htm

Including pictures of the Marvin suit (which already looks silly IMHO).

Directors are fairly interesting - their first film - but have done quite a few music videos, including Blurs "coffee and TV" and Fatboy Slims "Right Here"
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

if anyone was going to do the voice of the guide it should be Ian Holm, he has just the right voice

p.s. read the book, or get the radio series on tape; there's two versions radio - with actors etc. this is the original version [the book was written after the success of this] and comes in two parts phase one and two
    or
the book read out by douglas adams himself, in 5 parts, one for each book.

if anyone not listened/read/seen "H2G2" get the radio tapes phase one and two, i think you'll like it

If its a Hollywood film they will take out the plot and replace it with gee whiz special effects.

    Great.

Just read the screenwriter's self-interview at the official website, I really think it will be good. I mean he's actually put stuff that was cut out by DA back in!!
