    Dremel! :)

Where can I obtain a Dremel or similar? And how much? Not looking to pay too much but can't specify a price cos I don't know how much they are! I would look on some websites but I'm going to bed now so I'm leaving it up to you folk!

As I said it doesn't need to be anything too fancy as it'll be used for basic cutting (fan grilles first ) etc, but if it comes with a couple of basic heads then that would be cool?

    Thanks folks!

    ^ good cheap cutting disks.
I have a b&q dremmel and it works v well, no need to spend more than £15 as there is no noticable differnce in quality.

Also I think other tools may be more suitable, but that depends on what your cutting.
Dremmels are LOUD, not becuase of the motor, but becuase high rpm disks hitting metal makes niose. If you cant make niose I suggest either low speed tool, cordless drill for example (still does everything a dremmel will + adjustable tourque) or if its thin metal you want for fan grills get a nibbler, which make your hands hurt after a while but cut much better.

With dremmels there are only a few usefull atachment things out of the 50 or 60 that yhou get with most of them. cutting disks (brown) are what are most usefull. reinforced ones last longer (black with a grid on them). ball cutters (like an end mill [which is like a drill but for cutting sideways instead of down]) are usefull sometimes.

Sanding wheels, grinding wheels (green/pink things), cloth thing (for pollishing), wire brush things etc.. are mostly useless and you will proobably never use them.

also make sure you get a dust filter/mask as metal dust is not heathy to breath in.
you will also probably want a course and fine file, sandpaper, and possibly a can of this would probably be usefull (to stop metal from getting scratched and keep shiny).

most importantly make sure you use goggles because a dremmel *WILL* make things fly into your face [either the metal your cutting or the cutting disks as they snap] and it has happened to me many times, luckly I always use them.

    imo..

the Black + Decker dremel is better than the real Dremels, my B&D broke after about a year (£40 from argos) i used it a lot tho, and lost receipt.

got a dremel asa replacement, and its not quite as beefcake as myb&d was/

I got a £20 clone from Robert Dyas. It feels as bit cheap but seems to work fine, only used it a couple of times though. Cutting a fan grille out makes a frightening amount of noise.....
