Good place to buy prop stuff?

I need a few prop stuff like daggers, knives and swords.

Anyone used any good sites for similar things ?

Difficult in days where carrying a replica carries almost the same penalties as the real thing. And also depending on circumstances. Carrying a replica in a stage production would be OK, carrying ken on the street on the way to a fancy dress party might be less so.

Depends how realistic they need to be. Toyshops, home made or a theatrical suppliers, probably in that order.

Can't take metal made items where I am going. Need a material which looks realistic but is totally harmless. The only materials I can think of are rubber or wood or plastic.

peterb, so if I am on my way to a fancy dress party, e.g. a crusader, I can't wear my sword and then take the train ?

Depends what the sword is made of - a plastic toy sword would probably be OK - or two bits of wood nailed together and painted silver would probably OK - (but don't sharpen the end, unless you are a certified vampire hunter )

The idea is not to be seen to be carrying an offensive (I think the term is "without lawful authority" - is a wooded sword an offence weapon? well. not until you hit someone with it" - Is going to a fancy dress party a lawful excuse - depends on whether the copper that stops you has a sense of humour or not! Of course, if you carry the thing in a bag, then it is hidden from view - you just have to explain the chainmail in that case!

I'm sure you'll be fine, may you make the conquests you deserve!

Re: Good place to buy prop stuff?

Larp stores carry latex weaponry, some of which is impressively convincing, but it isn't cheap. What's the purpose? If it's actual stage use then you'll want something metal*, if it's fancy dress then a decent latex sword might be appropriate would be a significant investment, and you might be better off looking at "normal" toy swords instead - depends on you realistic you're looking for...

*but you'll also need a proper fight correographer or everyone will need stage combat certification, incidentally

Re: Good place to buy prop stuff?

Be best off with larp stuff for that sort of thing, if you're willing to invest that cash in it (that's on the assumption that this won't be a one-off gig and you'll be getting a number of uses out of it - plus if you have any siblings larp weapons are great for smacking them around with ). I'll do some digging and get you some links tomorrow afternoon.
