We don't need a referrendum, we need less secrecy and media spin from politicans on what issues are being debated so that interested parties can contact their MP to make their opinions known, and for the MP to be able to fairly balance the people's views against his own and vote accordingly.

I still argue that representative democracy can be made to work, if we removed the concept of political parties and instead voted for our prime minster (plus a small cabinet) seperately.

And I still say politicians don't have the right to unilaterally make sweeping decisions for all of us without our consent. That just invites corruption and cronyism.

Dissolving the parties is an interesting idea, though. But freedom of assembly is an important right imo. So I'd be more inclined to encourage more parties making up a cabinet, outlawing the party whip, etc.. Certainly democracies require 100% transparency where such information wont harm overseas deployments and 0% bull**** reporting would be great, but then if we're going to be sheep of representatives, what's the point?
