Such a shame, he was doing wonders with the Welsh side as well. Condolences to family and those that knew him.
Really sad news. I don't think I can recall ever watching a match where he had a bad game. One of the most consistent and assured players in Premiership history.
Particularly shocking as his house is within 4 miles of where I live.
Heard about this in the morning shocking news, Gary Speed was a fantastic footballer for every club he played for and seemed to be doing an impressive job for Wales as manager. RIP
I`m shocked. he was a great servant to Everton and as a Liverpool fan one of the players you hated to see on the teamsheet for them.
Listening on the news a lot of other footballers said he seemed fine lately. Robbie Savage was in a state on the radio earlier as well
Unconfirmed reports are saying a particular tabloid was going to leak stories with proof, about Gary Speed being gay.. hence the suicide
This may be a load of crap though!!

Something defintiely happened in his personal life from the time he left the football show till the next morning. I don't believe for one second he was a manic depressive.
A) Sexuality issues (thread of being outed).
B) Infedility (on either side).
C) Sexual Abuse
D) Corruption case regarding his work.
This was a handsome, successful man who had just started to get some good results from wales, who had planned holidays, who was not hated by anyone, but therein lies the problem.
EVERYONE has skeletons, look at Ryan Giggs, model footy then all of a sudden he was all over the papers for an affair, which no one really cares about.
But for a man like this to kill himself, someone has done something or threatend him with something nasty, and maybe he felt he could not live with the shame, after being seen as such a nice guy.
Apart from sleeping with children (which I doubt) there are VERY FEW THINGS that could drive a man like this to suicide.
Its complete nonsense he was a depressed and had enough. Something happened that night and if it was a tabloid telling him they were going to ruin his life like they have other for something unimportant they are going to get a tough time cos I'm tired of the UK press acting like ****ing vultures.
Something has to change, becaue we as people are to blame for buying those papers.
I expect this story to longer for ages, cos people cannot let things settle when they do no make sense.
I reckon someone was going to expose a dark skeleton in his closet and as a competive person who is well loved by everyone, perhaps he could not take it.
Everything I said is complete speculation that I am simply listing as potential variables and should not influence or be taken as anything more than that!
RIP Gary, no matter what you did, this was not the answer.
It is one of those things that is pretty hard to understand, more questions than answers, the part that has come through most is the professionalism of the man and the respect of his fellow pros. Condolences to his family.
I am sure some great stories will come out about him, but what always intrigued me was his departure from Everton and the subsequent booing from the Evertonians of which he was one, turns out his dignified silence for the club was a mark of the man, the second link will explain, the first is a set up of it

Maybe ... but until the day comes that they are held accountable it will stop, and i'm not fooled by this phone hacking enquiry either, this will in time be swept under the carpet like everything else.
Truth or not, unless its illegal what right do they have ?
Involuntary manslaughter ?
No-one has mentioned this but some people get a kick out of playing around with ropes and pretending to hang themselves etc. Some get a sexual kick out of it, but it can go wrong and end in a fatal accident. So it might not have been suicide...
Please understand I have no intolerance in this area. Whatever floats your boat. The fact is he was a great footballer and a great bloke.
Jusr proves you have to be careful if your think is ropes - best to have a friend or your partner at hand in case something goes wrong.
you're right .. no one has mentioned it... might be cos it's not likely though. If it's occured.. it's just as big-a-shame if it's something else. However, thank you for joining in and playing a part in our community.
Gary Speed, without a doubt, was a super star in sports, and I'm proper shocked and very very sad for his family.
I think it's best to end all speculation and just feel the bitter sadness for his family. Don't feed the flames... just bow your head and think of the bloke and his sad sad family.
