People want to hire me !??!

don't know how/why but I have 2 job interviews lined up now. I graduate on the 8th of July with my respectable 2:1 - btw chuffed a bit with my effort result tradeoff.

Just collected my kick ass first suit - insanely expensive, but it came from the bank of Dad as a reward for 4 years graft and his missing my 21st b.day ! Which didn't bother me 'cause I was too busy and I missed my own birthday.

Get to use said suit to try and get a job with Bristow Helicopters Ltd based in Aberdeen. I think their website is pretty good and so I would like to help them develop it and help them with their various projects @ home and abroad.

Not sure what to think about this interview. As they sounded really interested on the phone, and sneaked me in for an interview at the next possible time. This could mean they processed me first.. or really liked my app.

no point double guessing. But I am feeling a bit happy anyway. Just spreading joyful thoughts. < note.. I NEVER use them so this is a web killgORE smiley first.. possibly last.

    Cheers all !!

The interview went really well. I came across as a pretty much ideal candidate.

    him:"Have u used dreamweaver ? ".. me:"yeah". but thinking - its for hippies that can't code though.

They have 2 million lines of Delphi programming that is needing to be extended. Parts in delphi v 2.. delphi v 4.. and delphi v 8. They can't be arsed paying for the newest version of delphi, and the extentions are all getting views from a database.

So they are going to be using php. There is a development team of 3 - including me if I get it - and the uber coder that interviewed me - who wrote the majority of the original system 14 years ago. Its an initial 6 month contract that would earn me approx £10,000 all things considered.

    Pretty happy with the thought.

Well.. I didn't get the job because I don't have a driving license ffs. He said I was technically ideal and gave a really good interview. I thought that the driving thing would be o.k. because one of the first things he mentioned was that the coder he hired 3 years ago just learned about a month back.

Pretty much gutted. All things being equal I lose a job because I am simply too poor to get lessons til I get a job.

Ah well. I have another interview to look forward to on wednesday.

    Hey.. Don't put yourself down.

iMc. Don't worry about the skills. U still have a year? 2 years at uni ? I was crappy at computing in all honesty til my 3rd year at uni. Then stuff just seemed to click and my grade average went 'whomp' up to 16 (actually a group of 18's and a fail - by one mark - in a damn legacy course that has no fooking relevance anymore).

I suppose this is the first downside I have ever experienced because I went to uni too young. Or actually. Because I was in primary too early. The day I turned 17 I sent off the forms for provisional. It took so long to arrive that I got about 4 lessons before I re-located to uni. every summer I have had to take on a dogs job to try and earn enough to clear the overdraft for another year. So I couldn't afford lessons.

It was a coders job goddamn it. I am a code monkey. I can understand the driving thing if it was like an admin post across multiple sites. FTLOG - for the love of god - I can code in my shorts over ssh ! no need to move anywhere !

take it easy. For life.. she is still beautiful.

tbh, I know Bristow Helicopters, interesting company to say the least, are they still in Dyce and next to Bond helicopters? Man you meantioning them makes me wanna go home to Aberdeen, not been back for like 9 years now!

Keep positive, other things will come along, tbh, the company is ok, but I can think of much better to work for.

You will get used to the fact that companies sometimes think up lame excuses for not hiring you when you seem ideal, this case is a fine example. If they are at Dyce then they are at the airport ffs.

Don;t worry, you will get something killgORE

Ya.. next to the airport. So thats a number 27 bus away !

Its interesting because I know some of the other candidates and tbh It was clear that I was a better candidate than them. They will say the same if you ask them I am sure ! Just interested to see who got it !

But who cares. You can't live based on what ifs and Maybes. I have to look forward and learn a new companies website inside out. See what they are about and then get to the interview on wed.

I am sitting around getting ready for the second of the two interviews. This one is insane. They are wanting a graduate that can come in and administer pretty much all aspects of the companies IT department.

Network admin, extending website/databases, and troubleshooting/teaching people stuff.

I would have to work the licensing of software. Which should be easy because everything they use is Microsoft !!! It goes against my opinions, but at least shows that they are willing to throw money about. If I had my way I would make sure the company was legal by phasing in linux ! But if the company aint broke...

I really see this job as being 3 jobs in 1, so at least it should keep me busy.

oh YEAH. And One thing I HAVE to do. Is provide a flash alternative website.. they haven't specified this. But it is really nuts.
