    Blasted films!

I loved the film, so went ahead and bought it on blu ray. Waited a week for it to arrive an have been saving it for a rainy day.

Had a long day at work, and feeling pretty rubbish so i reach for the rum & coke and this Sucker Punch.

I put the blu ray in, wait the 30seconds it takes to load the 'data', then watch the copyright rubbish, then the anti-piracy rubbish, then the FBI/blue screen stuff...then the trailer begins. At this point I think ill skip it and go to the film. I press the menu button.

This takes me back to the blu ray ''choose data, etc etc'' screen. i press yes, and it starts it again...through the 30seconds of waiting, copyright rubbish, blue list of FBI/Spanish rubbish...then the trailer again. 3 mins into the ''film'' at this point.

I press the 'fast forward button'', and it pauses, tells me the use of the button is prohibited, then continues. I press it again...same thing again, it pauses, tells me its prohibited, then continues. I then press the 'skip scene' button...and it takes me back to the 'choose data' bit.

I then have to watch the copyright rubbish, anti-piracy rubbish, blue screen rubbish...trailer rubbish....THEN i get to see the flipping film i paid my money to see! a good 10mins after I tried to start it.

AND THEY WONDER WHY PEOPLE DOWNLOAD THESE FILMS!?!?

Chaps, can we all remember HEXUS' stance on pirated material. I've edited a couple of posts, and don't want to delete what could otherwise be an informed discussion.

    re: Blasted films!

It's just plain annoying, adverts for films are out of date within about 2weeks of the DVD/BR release yet mostly unskippable. I just tend to mash the menu/skip/FF buttons until something happens

    re: Blasted films!

Hope my VLC post wasn't considered border line.

That said sometimes the trailers can be useful especially if they show a film you'd not seen or heard of before

Even worse is when you are trying to put a film on and your three your old is kicking off on the sofa because you promised her she could watch the thing.

    re: Blasted films!

i think they should outlaw trailers on DVDs. or put them on but in a separate section so you can choose to watch them. I'd rather not have to push any buttons to get to the film!

    re: Blasted films!

Have to say I don't find it too much of a problem, they are getting better....

Several DVD's i've bought recently I had no problem skipping trailers (after the copyright notice) to get straight to the menu.

And Blu-Rays, anyone seen the BD-Live system they're putting on a lot of newer discs now ? Basically when you load the disc up if your player has a web connection it downloads the latest trailers rather than showing you the ones on the disc. Very clever, it also (if your player supports it) remembers you have seen the trailers and next time you put the disc in doesn't show you them.

Like the music industry they're late to the party, but they're finally realising they need to embrace technology rather than fear it.

    re: Blasted films!

I realise that they see the need to add this anti-piracy warnings, but it is the way that you are forced to watch them!. Anyone who buys even the odd film has seen these notices several hundred times already! We buy these films so that we can watch them several times, but we don't want to watch the legal notices each time, especially when we are the ones who are doing the right thing and paying for the film!

If you ask me the ability for film makers to disable actions like skip and fast forward was the worst thing brought in by DVDs. It almost makes me wish videos were still available. Sure they weren't as durable or good quality, but at least you had the choice of what you wanted to watch!

It's so people pirating can't say "Didn't see it" or "Nobody told me", it's only like software installers making you see and agree to the licence agreement before installing, they usually last <1 min and only really cause a problem if you get impatient and start pressing buttons determined to skip it resulting in confusing the player and you wasting more time by watching it repeatedly.

No not being able to skip trailers and go to the menu (once you've passed the anti-piracy message) that's a different thing and down to the studios. But as I said i've noticed all the DVD's I bought in the last month or so (10+) have not had this any more.
