My report on moving to Cider country

I'm now pretty much into my third month of moving upto Weston Super Mare and thought I'd post an update of how I'm getting on up here.

I didn't really get much of a chance to get my head around leaving Consumer Direct on the 09/03/2012 because the day after my last day I was moving up here. As soonas I got home I was loading the van with my life, then it was over to my flatmates place to load his stuff up into the same van. Had a few emotions as I went out the front door of the parents place, said a farewell to the cats for a while and closed the front door.

I really did hit the ground running, moved in on the 10th started work on the 12th no time to collect my thoughts, AT ALL ! I've still got stuff packed in boxes and trying to work out where stuff is.

I won't lie, there have been some moments where I have thought oh heck what have I done. That said I do find myself feeling less and less home sick as the weeks went by. But that said I just stuck at it and refused to let the homesick feeling drive me back to Cornwall, this is going to be making of me up here.

Job, well thats no different, the only thing I do different there is say I "Good morning/afternoon Citizens Advice Consumer helpline" other than that the job is exactly the same, same process, prcedures in some cases, just some different people. The team atmosphere is starting to gel there now, and we go out as a group quite often after pay day. There are a few things I'm not happy about but am going to bite my tongue before I go and have a moan to the office manager, don't want to be known as a moaner in my first few months. That said given that I have gone over under TUPE legislation I'm harder to get rid of than some of the new people they have taken on.

Friends, yes I'm making some up here, mostly through work, but me and one work colleague have spent most of this last weekend just doing stuff, which is nice, would be even nicer if things could go a bit further and Ithought hmmm faint heart never won fair maiden, asked her out, and whilst she said no it's not the end of the world.

Do have a few issues here with the flat mates, but thats easily sorted by just having a moan, oddly I thought theyd be moaning about me, but it's the fact that one of them has her boyfriend over almost every night and she does naff all cleaning, drives me and my other flat mate up the wall as we clean as we go. But meh in the main we all get along well and there is going to be a few flies in an otherwise pleasent ointment. That said I've got the biggest bedroom in the flat

Haven't yet had a drink with HeXites in this area and Bristol, looking to that in the summer

In the main though pleased I came up here, I've still got a long way to go but it's just getting better as each day passes.

Re: My report on moving to Cider country

Glad you are settling in reasonably well. And great job there with CAB, my ex used to work for them as Outreach Manager, visiting folks homes and helping (mainly) filling in DLA & Attendance Allowance forms She got rather good at that, and got me my DLA first go.

Anyway, never mind all that stuff, what ciders have you found and enjoyed ?

If you ever get over to Street, be sure to get some Kingston Black from Heck's ! Multiple gold medal winners, and I used to get a couple gallons a week when I was a college in Yeovil in 93.
    Cheers, David

Re: My report on moving to Cider country

Well it was really a case of job or no job, I'm good at what I do and it would be silly turn my back on something that I enjoy. Whilst I may not live to work I do try and make a difference to everyone I speak to on the phone, not always easy when they claim to know better than me, but sill there we go !

We don't touch the things like DLA, Work and Pensions yet or civil mariage and relationship disputes, our part of the service really deal with just Consumer Law (SGA/SGSA/CPDSR 2000 etc)

As for Cider's I've tried Thatchers Gold, but not seen too many other local ones as I've mainly been going in the chain pubs in all fairness.

Re: My report on moving to Cider country

Had a similar experience my self, moving from 'cider country' (a small village, about 20 mins south from WSM by car) to London, arrived on Sunday, started work on Monday! That was 2 years ago now and it's not all been plain sailing, but I'm definitely glad I made the move.

Sounds as if you're getting on well there, hope it continues for you!
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
