Crooks used Scan's good name in a con?

According to this article - http://www.channelregister.co.uk/201...any_hijacking/, it appears some criminals traded on Scan's award winning reputation to score a load of hardware...

Though it also appears that The Register's journalists care more about getting copy out, than getting it right, since Scan are based in Bolton (or at least their shop, warehouse and phone systems are!)

LOL, Bristol based. Elan won't like that.

...would be more convenient for me though if it were true.

Re: Crooks used Scan's good name in a con?

They are talking about a distributor that shipped £40,000 worth of goods to a company on a first order without having run any credit checks or done anything to verify that companies credentials such as looking them up on Companies House, which I seriously doubt and in the same article they don't even get Scan's location right themselves. I think this story is just a big steaming pile of horse manure.

He reckoned the fraudsters had carefully leafed through the products on his website to identify his suppliers.
Since the article says that the scammers studied scan's website to work out who their suppliers were, it's possible the one that did get duped had previously received an order from scan, but were not one of scan's regular disties. Check the back records, yeah scan have ordered from us before, big name company with good credit, sure, ship the stuff. In the current economic crisis a big value order from a well respected former customer could seem like a windfall. It might be tempting to skip things like basic checks to get the stuff out the door quicker - give good customer service and fast turn-around this time and maybe you'll get more orders in the future. I can easily understand how they could've been caught out.

Having said that, of course - very careless and hopefully they've learned their lesson...

No, wait that's not right - "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice shame on me." is what I meant

The best thing about that misstep by Bush is that he basically started reciting The Who.
