    Re: Ebay fees too high?

The Paypal lock-in is the bit that annoys me the most, since it almost entirely benefits the buyer not the seller. I used to use Nochex a lot back in the day, but ebay killed that.

Having said all that, the reason I rarely sell on ebay isn't the fees, it simply isn't worth an hour of my life going to queue in the post office.

    Re: Ebay fees too high?

Personally I have completely given up selling on ebay, unless I really really need it to be an auction (e.g. with my parent's kitchen, which recently sold on there). The fees are extortionate, coupled with the high chance of buyers raising a claim/complaining, being forced to use paypal etc etc..

I now exclusively sell my 2nd hand goods on Amazon - fees wise they are very similar by the end of it all, but you get access to a bigger market, much better customer service (i.e...they have some), no daft rules on feedback, sensible postage limits, better marketing tools..the list goes on.

I find that I sell things faster and make more money selling on amazon than i do on ebay.

Except you lose (as a buyer) all protection offered by e-bay. So buyers - do not be coerced by sellers to trade outside bay.

I regard anyone who tries that as a probable scam merchant.

In reality, that would be unlikely to work. eBay gets a huge amount of traffic and it would be very hard for a newcomer to match that - the fact that eBid and similar still have not really taken off proves that.

Plus naming a site "ebaye" and making it an auction site would be an obvious infringement on the eBay name, and they would issue a cease-and-desist or other legal action.

I just earned my turquoise star for hitting 100 positive feedback. It's only taken nine years! Although, I didn't really start using my account until a few years ago.

I've had people try to scam me into paying or accepting payment outside of ebay. I've also had more than my fair share of time wasters, who I find infuriatingly annoying; because you can't leave negative feedback for people who don't pay.

Depends. I do a lot of distance based searches on ebay, especially for heavy stuff precisely to avoid postage. Don't mind paying cash in that case - benefits both parties.

I don't understand why ebay removed the seller feedback system though - very strange. I suppose if sellers are forced to readvertise, more money for ebay. Kerrchiiinggg!

    Re: Ebay fees too high?

EBay charge two high, the catalog fee plus the final cost which take in the shipping cost. That’s around 10 to 11 % in addition, if your consumer pays with PayPal, they will charge you 35 cents plus 2.7% of the total. So, yes the fees is quickly high.

im about done with ebeg. sold a load of old royal doulton ornaments for our lass, to france, after some persuasion from frenchie.
frenchie gets ornaments, doesn't like them, breaks two of them, then raises a claim.
