    Massive GoDaddy Outage

So a single user @Anonymousown3r yesterday took down the GoDaddy DNS servers ( DDOS) taking out the whole GoDaddy network, thousands of websites around the world - including my hosting.

    http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise...ddy-goes-down/

GoDaddy apparently moved their DNS services to their competitor VeriSign overnight just to get on servers not under attack.

Apparently it was in protest to GoDaddy's support of SOPA and PIPA, now I can kind of understand taking down say Sony Pictures because of SOPA/PIPA support, but taking down GoDaddy has no doubt affected thousands of small-medium businesses who probably have no idea about SOPA...

And that is exactly the point.

Inconvenience the common man so that he stands up and takes notice.

More publicity to the cause, raise awareness.

They may think the group that did it are a bunch of douches for interrupting their services but at the same time they may get behind the cause as a whole when they realize what SOPA/PIPA are about.

No point nailing the big corporations they already know about SOPA/PIPA and you do not raise awareness anywhere near as much by hitting them

    Re: Massive GoDaddy Outage

Seems the initial reports were out by some distance...

Firstly it turns out GoDaddy publicly dropped support for SOPA/PIPA in Nov 2011, but that's still the main focus of most articles out there.

Secondly it's not thousands of websites that went down it's millions. Godaddy hosts in excess of 5 million websites, mostly small businesses and the entire DNS structure went down (apart from Asia) so most of those 5 million sites were unaccessible and had no email for 8 hours.

Apparently this was one person, the main Anonymous "hacktivist" group has distanced itself from this.

Its pathetic, whoever was behind it should grow up, in the end you arent 'sticking it to the man' you're simply hurting the public the people you claim to be helping, peeing me off these children sometimes.
