    Jesus used pot

Why would the son of God need to use Pot to heal ?

Well he did , according to this.

Jesus w as almost certainly a cannabis user and an early proponent of the medicinal properties of the drug, according to a study of scriptural texts published this month. The study suggests that Jesus and his disciples used the drug to carry out miraculous healings.

    Re: Jesus used pot

A Guardian clip from 2003? I'm sure lots of people saw it at the time.

This might have been better in the thread where you originally posted it, but seriously, an article 9 years old?

I'm sure you can do better posting than crawling through the newspaper archives looking for 'sensational' news thst is no more than one person's opinion (who might have his own agenda.)

However, leaving aside the religious distraction, many medicines are derived from plants, one of the best known is aspirin, or salisylic acid, originally obtained form willow bark. Morphine is another, and a potent cytotoxic is obtained from the Madagascan Periwinkle.. Research is being undertaken into the therapeutic uses of chemicals produced by the cannabis plant.

The use of plants for pharmacological purposes is probably as old as humanity itself, whether it is chewing cloves for tooth ache or administering hemlock for execution (Socrates).

Lots of plants share a genus and are wildly different.

The Solanum genus contains a lot of plants that are poisonous to humans, but we still eat tomatoes, potatoes and aubergines. Although I'm not convinced the latter is meant to be eaten at all.

my mistake I saw it posted as something more recent , and assumed it was.

As you said yourself the use of plants as old as humanity so I'm not sure why youd think this was that sensational (esp when there already churches like the santo daime following Jesus who incorporate hallucinogenics in their ceremonial use )

Apparently Pat Patterson is an advocate of pot too.

Regardless of however you wish to interpret my post i think it still raises an interesting question ( if true ) of why would the son of God need to use something like pot to heal , and how that might change certain events or accounts by followers if they were influenced by it too.

Is it really that interesting a question?

I'm guessing your point might have more to do with the legal side and how this casts moral shadows over Jesus's use of cannabis derived medication even though marijuana was first outlawed in 1913 and then the law was updated with The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. I couldn't find anything with regards to UK laws on this topic, however I only searched briefly and I'm pretty certain that 2000 years ago the people in the UK had no idea that Jesus, Bethlehem and Jerusalum even existed.

Its a very interesting question because if Jesus was influenced by this , then that raises even more ??? as to why its not part of Western religion today, and whether Jesus himself was ordinary man who just happened to be skilled in the use of hallucinogenics for achieving certain effects / healing that might otherwise be called " miracles " or Shamanism.

If this was what enabled Jesus to achieve notoriety , then it completely fudges the idea of Jesus being some celestial vessel and further underlines the hypocrisy of the western church.

Afterall , if pot was what Jesus believed in ( like Shamans do with spirits of plants ) then God in the popular sense of the word is dead and just an invention and political tool.

Or you have the other alternative where he really is the son of god and advocating something that is shunned and demonized by Christian Faith today.

How can a faith that lists the bible as source of truth also go against certain parts within it ?

I think something has twisted your melon man!

Outlawing marijuana has nothing to do with religion, it was done for political and cultural reasons according to this article and many people think that it is illegal in UK because the government can't regulate it.
