Cheque Query

This is probably a really stupid question but...

"Make the cheque payable to BLAH and cross it account payee only"
I see the A/C Payee column down the middle of the cheque but what exactly am I meant to do there? : o

You write the payee's name across the cheque the account payee bit is just the background

ah right, pretty much how ive written every other cheque ever, then cheers mr

It's a fraud prevention thing, to stop people cashing cheques that aren't written out to them. In the old days (and sometimes still today), cheques that aren't crossed A/C Payee Only were able to be passed to someone else by the Payee by them simply signing the cheque themselves.
