Slightly off topic, but did you hear about the guy who's putting himself up to be the friend of whoever bids the most for a month? The winner will apparently get emails and texts etc. I got this off the BBC technology section on my mobile, I see if I'll can find a link...

    Here it is:

heh you didn't bid high enough then - hardly e-bays fault
people bid at the last minute to try and steal it. Unless you've put in a decent amount of what you are willing to pay, expect it to disappear

very true TiG. The ONLY way to ebay is to bid in the last 15 seconds, and even then, you can be outbid by someone who's prepared to pay more.

People cheat. Sites like http://www.esnipe.com ruin the whole concept.

    Edit: link fixed

But you bid your maximum, and then ebay proxy bids for you, therefore if you dont get it surely you feel the item was overpriced/you couldn't afford it?

while true thats beside the point i bid and i should of won the fact that if id bid a mere 50p higher i may have won it is irrelevant

If you were happy to pay 50p more then why didnt you set that as your maximum?? Like somebody else said you put down what your willing to pay, if you lose out then you havent lost out really becuase it was more expensive than you were willing to pay. I was just put in what I will pay straight off, if I lose out so be it.

I always bid within the last 20 seconds... I did it last night on some vinyl :-) Stole it for 50p more than the previous bidder!

realy annoys me when ppl do it, but its only fair and always happens, ppl only bid on things at the end of an auction

happens to me a lot as i sell stuff, see a stick of ram going for about 3 quid *sigh* with 2 minutes left, close window, next thing i know got a closed auction notice , so check my mail and it seems that it infact made a tenner never been suprised by ppl in last minutes one phone i sold went up 50 quid in a matter of 30 seconds

The way the site works (ordering finishing soonest to top) doesn't help.
