I do this all the time to my students when they want equipment. They walk in and ask for a microphone or some headphones.. and I'll turn around and say "no".

I do that too, but it's usually more to do with my not paying attention.

Well, at the cinema, my housemate asked for a large Fanta. They asked if he wanted still or sparkling. He said yes. They asked again. He still just said yes. They asked about 5 times before I took pity on them and told them to give him sparkling. I think they thought he was retarded or something!
