    Make up & photography session

    Hi guys,

It's that time of year again when I have to get the girlfriend something for her birthday, and as per normal with 2 weeks to go I am panicking!

I am thinking of one of these photography sessions where she has her make up done, takes a couple of outfits and then have photos taken. I am not too sure what to expect price wise, but having never tried it/had experience with it in the passed I am unsure how to go about finding them.

Can anyone recommend any around the Guildford/Staines/Reading area? Or general advice on what to look out for?

    Cheers guys

I've no experience of these, in your area or otherwise, but I have seen some consumer "exposé's" of some such events. All I can suggest is research properly, and be careful, especially if up-front fees are involved. No doubt some are genuine and high quality. Just make sure you pick one that is.

Groupon? i get an email offer for this sort of stuff every few weeks.

Wife got us to do a 'couple' one a few years back at local studio, and the costs of the prints afterwards were shocking and they refused to give us the high-res images.

Re: Make up & photography session

Maybe separate out the two? Book a pampering/make up session and then follow it with a photo session at a known photo place you can trust. I'd go to the guy who did our wedding photography in a flash (hoho) if I wanted any studio work done because he was great and very reasonable about prints and high-res digital copies etc.

In fact, maybe you could find a photo place first and ask them if they have any recommendations for make up artists?

Re: Make up & photography session

It does appear to be a massive mind field in terms of price, quality and satisfaction so I am going to leave it for the time being. Going down the posh hotel & meal route instead, a far safer bet! Cheers anyway guys

Re: Make up & photography session

A much better idea. A friend had one of these shoots done recently.

The shoot itself is cheap/free but they will probably take some great photos, which your gf is then going to want to buy. And that's when it's time to bend over...

    Providing it's spent on me!

Yeah, I remember an ex of mine going for the make up and photos at a dedicated place and she ended up forking over £500 for all the photos. I was a mixture of gob smacked and furious over how ridiculous it was.

I was hoping for a sensible equivalent but it's too much of a gamble for my liking, too many polar reviews.
