valid point reg - i doubt a person could survive in such a condition for the lenght of time he did. i forget was he topless or just wearing a jumper cause that would make an infinite difference into his body heat.
not touching the ice would also limit heat loss as heat is lost 30x conductively than convectively... he'd be buggered in minutes in other words if he touched the ice.

think he was mate dont know for sure, the basic trick was if you touched the ice u would die easy if you didnt touch the ice then basicly your standing in a plexyglass booth where your own heat keeps you warm. i dont think some of his stunts are magic they are testing his endurence and skill to keep still and focused

yup. as demonstrated by his standing on that pillar for god knows how long it was... aside from boredom, i don't think i could hold on that long until i had to pee!!
