Guys, you realize this ad was made for the asian market, by a chinese company? They don't push the same cultural stigmas on alcohol as the western world. You can only say "What's this country coming to?!" if you're chinese.
I feel nothing either way. If the Brice Lee Foundation (who owns Bruce Lee) didn't sell the rights to his use, it still doesn't matter; it's China.
I don't quite get why single malts get all attention. It doesn't happen with other drinks.
im sure there must be a better way to sell whisky...
I agree. And if they'd wanted to use a great performer who is no longer with us, this is who I'd have chosen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TehFZ38kt6o
This advert isn't aimed towards the average whiskey drinker in the UK that probably already knows what they like and knows how much they want to spend.
This advert for Blue Label is targeted towards the Rich FOB Chinese hence Bruce Lee. Blue label costs like £150 a bottle which is four times the price of Black label.
FOB Chinese guys that suddenly come into wealth have no idea about the value of things, they only know that whiskey is a rich man drink so the more expensive the better. My friend told me that he saw a Chinese guy buy a bottle of £10,000 Johnnie Walker at the airport asking the clerk if it was the most expensive Whiskey that had. There was no way that the guy knew anything about whiskey. In Chinese culture it is all about FACE which derives from status and wealth.
That's a single variety molasses rum?
It does happen with other drinks, you get single variety ciders, or single hop beers, but these aren't generally considered superior products.
You blend different flavours together to get a more sophisticated, more rounded product.
