Melon.. has been banned for life from hexus over a thread where he/she made a joke which had potential to offend.
I will not go into the joke or who and why it may have offended people (this should be obvious). The point is I think that there should be a little more leniency towards members. Here is the thread in which Melon was banned http://forums.hexus.net/general-disc...7-iceland.html
For anyone that doesn't know.... Melon has been a member for a long time and has over 3000 posts, some may say that this only reinforces the fact that he/she should know better, but personally I think Melon should be given a second chance based on his contribution to the forum.
No doubt many off us will have offended other forum members in the past ( me included )... but does offending people warrant punishment to this level? I have seen the UK over my life slowly lose what i thought was the "freedom of speech" that we had. Only to be told that we don't have freedom of speech in the UK just freedom of expression.
Everyday the things we can say in public seem to be more and more scrutinised, where are we heading? Look at any other country in the world they are not like Britain, where people can have open conversations without being branded. The accusations of sexism, racism, homophobia, anti-Semite, Islamophobia, Zionist come all to quickly in this country, where is this heading ? It's heading the way the government wants....homogenisation. Where we all think the same, we all act the same and the powers that be are happy because they have a nice little controllable population.
We are also too quick in this country to claim offense. The statement "I'm offended" spills out from everywhere, so we act to control the person that caused this offense in attempt to silence them. Well i'm sorry but I find myself offended by all the people around me that don't like being offended.
I know that Hexus is a private forum and that whoever owns it has the choice to do what they like, thats fine and likewise Saracen does have the final say. But im just asking for a little more leniency.
Please reconsider the decision to ban Melon...
