    Experiments with Tea Bags

OK..it really is DULL here today.

So I decided to try out a theory that Sair showed me.....the perfect cuppa in HARD WATER AREAS

Now throughout time, the perfect cuppa has been made like so...

Tea pot.....one tea spoon of tea leaves per person, plus one for the pot. ie 3 people drinking, use 4 spoons of tea leaves.

Then you boil water (only ever boil it once...never ever re boil) and pour it while boiling over the leaves.

Leave for 1 minute, then stir and leave to brew for 3 to 4 minutes.

    Sorted.

HOWEVER....in hardwater areas, you get a film on the surface a miniscus of chalky deposits.

SO I have made 20 identical cups of tea, and have made 10 with boiling water straight on the tea, and 10 with milk put in first...and then boiling water poured over.

Without a doubt, having milk in first DOES STOP the film forming YEAHHH

It also takes twice as long to brew, cos its cooler cos of the milk, but its proof.

If you want a cuppa clear of scum, in hardwater areas, put the milk in first.

    I thank you

...Or alternatively drink coffee ( as I make that with the milk in first )

I did once try to make a cup of tea with the milk in and then add the hot water but even after waiting for 5 minutes the tea looked at best extremely weak.

What I want to know is ... why do drinks such as tea/coffee/chocolate taste better with full fat milk than semi-skimmed? It just can be down to the fat in the milk can it surely ?

If you want a p1ss weak cuppa, put the milk in first. Otherwise, do it properly.

Seriously, I really don't like nasty weak tea that's been made with the tea bag dunked in a load of milk before the boiling water has been put in. It took me ages to train my wife out of the habit, and I suspect she still does it if I don't watch her like a hawk.

I drink it either as I'm not fussy how my caffiene levels are increased just as long as they are increased on a hourly basis, but I do prefer a nice cup of fresh ground columbian coffee with 2 sugars and nice full fat channel island milk thats full of creamy goodness

I did try that milk in a cup of tea once - it was okay but I've never really been a tea drinking person ( unless I forget to get coffee from tescos and I have the caffiene withdrawals @ 4 am.)

Then, just maybe then, you will see me drinking tea

I'm with tumble on the coffee thing, mines so black it absorbs light from the area around it, Tea however needs to be nice and milky and contain 2 sugars.

Milk and teabags should simply never (NEVER) co-exist in the same cup at the same time.

    It's just wrong.

    Don't do it.

Also I refer the right honerable gentlemen (that's you lot) to have a good shifty all around the following awesome site. Including if you're very board the last 9 months feedback to find topics along these very lines.

Nope. I just suck the layer off to get my calcium, then enjoy a properly brewed cup o' char.
