do you think a guinea pig ever came from [New] guinea?
and if perhaps it's name is derived from the cost of one guinea (i.e. one guinea for the animal - back when ever guineas were money) what was its name before it cost this much?

alternatively these small furry animals were used as legal tender e.g. a tener = ten guinea pigs...

thus when buying goods everyone had to carry around large cages attached to their belts containing small furry animals. a hampster would be half a guinea pig where as a mouse is a tenth.
of course this all got terribly confusing and people were forced into poverty when they could no longer feed their money. It was at this point when all small furry animals were given to young girls and boys as pets and the monetary note came into being. this was by far the most effective medium in which one's riches could be counted and traded, they fit in your pocket easily, they didn't eat your pocket, you never got confused when you had to pull one out of your pocket and choose which one to use and they never ran off around the house costing you a fortune...(literaly)

I don’t think that posting useless facts is anymore spam like than some of the other threads "fly boy" , e.g. what digital camera’s have people got (not having a dig at that thread, just illustrating a point ). Personally I'd much rather read useless facts than what digital cameras people have.
