Where do you go to meet people...?

I've been hanging around these forums for ages now, don't really say much, but I know that there are communities behind it all. Which is great, but not something I'm part of.

I'm a bit curious, because I'm working late a lot now, and all my old school friends and uni friends live all over the country, and I don't get chance to go and see them very often...where do people go to meet other people on the web??

I was at a party a few weeks back and there was a couple who met over a christian website, and another friend was telling me even longer ago that lots and lots of people do, in this age where community is decreasing (probably due to miserable gits like me who isn't comfortable just going to the pub on my own to meet people!)...and I'm finding myself a little bit alone now and again.

Any thoughts about good online communities, or what have you? Jesus, even dating sites?!? I'm not christian by the way, just these people at the party were.

And I'm not having a go at Hexus at all, I've just not ever really made friends here, which is okay!

Anyone else feel the same, or am I just a lonely old man in training??
    Well Hello!

I have a similar problem, my 84 hour working week has destroyed my social life. I manage a few posts on here now and again, and as with so many things, you get out of it what you put in. We could do with more ladies though .

I dont think I'd go to the pub either on my own to meet people . . .

Im fine with posting here from time to time coz when Im at home, I usually wanna be there - if not, then I'd be doing something social . . . Im not too bothered I dont have much in common with people here.

Stupid question but ru not mates with anyone you work with??
Quite a few of my best mates are people Ive met through work and coz you all come from different places you usually get to meet loads of new people through em on a night out??

Meeting people can be difficult, guess it just depends on ur personality tbh...

I just walk up to people and talk to them.

but then, sadly, the nasty man, in the white van shows up, and puts me into my special white suit with long arms...and then he ties the sleeves together begind me.

but its ok....cos then the voices start again, and I'm not alone

Seriously tho fella....as Honoop says, sometimes it is work friends you go out with. If not, then DO go and visit college mates. See what they get up to.

SOme of the long termers here at Hexus meet up now, cos its been many years since we've been here.

LAN parties are good too......ya know...PC Gaming parties.

Workmates are best. Hooked up with a few workies a few years back and now we are all best mates.

Never had much truck with meeting people who I've met online.

Met alot of guys from these forums at LAN's, parties, mr mgh0 I met in my local and swafe I met when I sold him my shuttle a while ago. Having met most of the long termers I can say they're all cool guys to get together and have a beer with.

But my main source of meeting people is college, or more rather the pub down the road from college. Nightclubs are also a brilliant place to meet people because you can get away with acting like zak by just talking to anyone and not get carried away by men in butterfly nets

    supermarkets are a good place....

just steer clear of the "quiet" woman hanging about near the nappies though

I've met peeps online, offline and in a wide variety of places. I'm with zak33 on this one as I tend to flirt like a right "tart" all the time and on one occasion I got asked if I was gay while out clubbing. When I said " errrrr nope " the girl smiled and said well prove it then.

Another good place is local pubs and places like that.

I've met loads of people off the net, most of them post on hexus and i've met people off a more local forum based in and around glasgow's "alternative" scene and made loads of mates that way. I've also met a few close mates at uni. Youe meet people all over the place, but dont go out with the mission to meet people, cos you'll try too hard, you make the best friends by being urself and meeting them totally by accident.

Hm, thanks for all the replies!

I do go and see college mates when I can, I'm probably gonna see a schoolfriend I haven't seen for two years next week which'll be cool.

Work isn't gonna work like that because we are a small company, and although I do get on with folks I don't think they are gonna be my best buddies (and I've been there two years now!!)...all oldies too (i.e. 30 + ). We work away a lot and so "go out" but not in a meeting new people kinda way.

LAN parties sound good, should really see when there's one near here (if at all? Aylesbury/Hemel? Probably more likely London right??).

Maybe I should join a singles club...?? My dad goes to dinner dance things!
    Well Hello!
