Rated People, safetrade.org, who to use?

We need the house rendering sorted, I posted a job on ratedpeople and got one hit from a national company trying the "buy now and save £500" style pressure sell followed by lots of follow up calls until I told them to back off.

Any idea of any decent sites to post up jobs that will get back some half decent companies?

My local council have started a program recently where pull together a list of reputable tradesmen with the help of Trading Standards and Age Concern and distribute it as a small booklet in local libraries, shops etc etc. It's called the Fix-A-Home Scheme if memory serves. They have to go through a selection process and have their work reviewed regularly to keep their name on the list. Might be worth seeing if your local council do something similar?

    Hi,

Try findyourlocalbuilder.co.uk, they don't sell leads to tradesmen.

Re: Rated People, safetrade.org, who to use?

I've used the FMB's 'Find a Builder' thing before. Didn't get any national companies contacting me (might have been lucky) and I specified I only want a local business. Was pretty good apart from one lying about being "local" - still drove 2 hours to give me a quote.

These rated schemes are like a number of garage ones, pay to be a member and receive reviews improving your image, all reviews will probably be proofed and restricted for anything untoward no doubt. People won't be on X because they are paying to be on Y etc
