On the verge of growing up

Well, after 4 months of temping while searching for a job (and wishing i was back at university), little ol' philosophy graduate me has got himself a job Well, actually it's more of a career, i'm entering into the world of Digital Forensics

Now, the point of this post isn't to blow my own trumpet, but to ask a question. Seeing as how this new job will involve me having to appear in court, i'm going to have to cut off my blue dreadlocks. Now, i've been preparing myself for this, and estimate that i'll have about inch long hair when the deed is done.

Basically, can anyone give me ideas for how to have my hair? I don't want to go skinhead, although im considering the feasability of an undercut (having had one for 2 years), but i want something a bit alternative, if you get my drift.

Well, if it means anything to you, then you are, without doubt, my favorite blue-dreadlocked Philosophy graduate who now works in the world of Digital Forensics.

And I mean that very very sincerely.

Is there a law against having blue dreadlocks in court?

    Thank you Vaul, appreciated

iMc, the company i'll be working for said that, although they don't have a problem with my hair, I should present myself professionally when representing the company, and unfortunately a lot of people still judge by appearances. I can see where they're coming from, and although i will sorely miss my dreads, I'd rather have the job

It's a shame when things like this happen, but I suppose you will have to comply.

As for when it's cut just get some gel and mess around!

Yeah, i can put retainers in my piercings, and i'll still have my tattoos, so all is not lost

My plan is to have a hat and gel ready for when my friends cut my dreads off!

it is a shame but life is like this.....you have to do some stuff that, from outside, looking in, makes no sense...and yet its considered essential from inside.

And I am very very pleased to hear you like the idea of a job and career more than the blue dreads. Just a shame such things occur.

I'd go Grade 4 right now..so its growing back to a length you can decide on by January.

I can't imagine many people would be stubborn enough to throw away a good career to keep a hairstyle. But I hope that slowly the world is changing so people can accept more variety in how others look.

Unforunately the judicial system is still a vastly pompoous, upper class and old system.

Until that changes - blue dreads best stay out of the court room.

    Cheers guys

I'll have some fun playing with it, trying different styles, and see what i like best. Who knows, maybe when every company/business accepts more outlandish hairstyles it will be long enough to have dreads again

The only thing I'd add is to make damn sure you've got PLENTY of photos of your hair now.
The only photo's that exist of my dreads were taken at my mates wedding - and his wife doesn't let the photo album out of her sight (and also made sure she picked photos i wasn't in! )

oi, my dad's a barrister - old and pompous?! [spell it right!]
    muppet!

as for dreds in court; can't say they'd like it...just go for the happy medium and then representation in court isn't going to be a problem. think of it like this - you wouldn't turn up in your shell suit and burberry cap would you? quite.

I certainly wouldn't turn up in a shell suit or burberry cap, under no circumstances would i even own such garments

As i've said before, i'm quite happy to get rid of the dreads for work, and i do look rather smart in my suit, even if i do say so myself

    As for pics, i've plenty

I've got it - you leave the hair as it is, go about your daily work, and if anyone asks about it, simply say 'No speako Englaisy' is a Mexican-sounding voice.

    Mastar plan!
