Barclays bank took one year and 3 months to complete money transfer

Someone sent me some money in april 2013 from their Barclays account, and one year and 3 months later, the payment is still marked as sent to my account, but nothing has arrived... Barclays said "we put the money in our sundry account and then forgot about it. The sender even went to complain at their barclays branch, and one month later barclays till had not done anything...

Am in not due interest on this money, if barclays held on to it for a year and 3 months? the sum is just over 200 pounds.

Whether you're due interest or not, I'd think you'd at least be entitled to an apology and some form of compensation as a goodwill gesture for such imcompetence on their part.

Complain, and each time they do nothing, escalate it. Eventually youll be at the Ombudsman, and they will most likely rule in your favour.

Of course, you could do what some guy did and send them a reasonable invoice of your own, they might well just pay up.

Use their unauthorised overdraft interest rate, since you "lent" them the money for a year, and add in their "unauthorised overdraft" fees, couldnt be viewed as unreasonable.

What's Wonga's current rate? You might end up owning the bank if you charge them a reasonable short term loan interest rate quick calculation at their current rate puts it at a smidge under £15000

This might not be correct advice, but probably not much at all.

You would have to demonstrate that you have suffered a loss because of their incompetence. My best advice is the usual, document everything.

Every communication, every phone call, every letter, write it down. I use OneNote for these things, but a paper folder works just fine. After a phone call, write the time, the duration, the operators names, and a quick summary of what you think was or wasn't said. Almost all the firms keep these phone calls indefinitely now, so they will check if need be, as such, try and be honest by that I mean neutral in what you write down after a call. The same goes if you visit a branch and talk to someone in person.

Despite what others have said, do not go to the FCA just yet.

You want to first get a letter of deadlock

If you've got that the Ombudsman will take your complaint more seriously. In all honesty, given the small amount in question, you will be better off getting to the team at Barc that have discretionary ability to solve the situation. Those guys can normally give you upto £100 with out any hassle to solve their own messes.

If you don't have all your ducks lined up (copies of letters etc.) the ombudsman will be of less use than if you do. It should be a last resort, so unless you've got some evidence (paper is still preferred) of them not addressing the issue then you shouldn't really be going to it just yet.

Re: Barclays bank took one year and 3 months to complete money transfer

Not sure how you'd be entitled to anything really since you say the transaction didn't originate from your account. Surely it'd be down to the person making the payment to chase this up?
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

Re: Barclays bank took one year and 3 months to complete money transfer

How has it taken you 1 year and 3 months to finally get up and do something about it? I suggest you keep phoning the bank and trying to escalate it. Maybe talk to the bank manager? It would be probably be more effective for the guy who sent the money to chase it up if I'm honest...
