because of your dollar being so weak against the £
if you go over £18 you have to pay import duty and handeling fees :S
if you mark it gift though they usually wave the fees for up to a certain amount
but not too much, they can legally rip your parcel open, kick it about, laugh then send it to your house shredded up and charge you about 25% of the retail price

be very careful, the actual law is ultimately the sender is responsible for the fees, but this is only really proven by companies like UPS and FedEx, as they have the ability to route the cost back, the Royal Mail/USPS don't.
Swafeman's right, they have a right to open any package, I know someone who got charged $17.50 on a $29.99 DVD from Play.com.
If its the hardware you were talking about on the other thread just be cautious, and make SURE you mark it as used whatever you do, beleive it or not Customs do appreciate that Computer hardware loses value.

I sent a AIW 9800 pro to daymonkey in a big brown box, on the customs form I put his adress and mine. For the discription I put PC graphics card, manual, cd's , cables, adapters, and remote... as for the rest its been left blank as thats how I was told to do it... But I ran back to the post office and had them mark it as gift!So how to they charge people if they dont know what its worth?
Edit: Also I think thats a crime! Once the US gets done liberating the afgans we will save yous next! If our goverment tried that bull crap over hear they'ed be overthrown by hords of mobs!

we do but the end user dont pay it! The companies do! Our taxes (vat) is noware near as greedy as yours...
