eBay / Paypal - advice needed

I sold a digital download key for Metal Gear Solid V through eBay. This was a redeemable game through the nVidia promotion. This was sold on 22nd September, paid for through paypal and today I've received an e-mail from Paypal the buyer (whom I have e-mail and full address) has now reversed the payment and raised a dispute.

I don't believe I've broken eBay's terms looking at their website, digital sales are permitted and my instructions to download the game were sent within 1 hour of the purchase, via eBay's messaging system so I have proof of this.

It's just a massive pain in the a*** to have to go through all the motions for the sake of £25. From experience am I likely to see my money when all is this is over?

    sorry, facetious...

If you have proof that it was sent then just counter claim, they *usually* go on the sellers side in this type of sale, cuz he could have used it and then claimed back !

Re: eBay / Paypal - advice needed

I've submitted a screen grab of the message sent via eBay showing the time bought, time the message was sent, and the full content of the message for how to claim the game. Hopefully paypal will see sense. I looked on his feedback and the last week another seller has commented the buyer has done the same to them.

    What sort of dispute?

Also, LOL at the concept of a seller getting their money back. Jimmy Saville hsa more chance of being reincarnated as the baby Jesus.

Bud, should have checked his feedback first after he won the item. You could have then cancelled the sale for an obscure reason such as Item no longer available and then added the buyer to your Blocked bidders list. And, then relist the item! When a seller cancels a sale these days, the buyer is unable to leave you -ve feedback

There a lot of scum buyers on ebay.
In the last 10 years, I had buyers who returned
    - a graphics card minus the heatsinks on the RAM chips
    - a buyer who said that laptops hard drives are small than 2.5"
    and many more.

Re: eBay / Paypal - advice needed

I did check his feedback, it was 100% positive (50+ comments) and registered since 2006....anyway there has been a positive outcome - Paypal e-mailed me to confirm there was no evidence of unauthorised access to the users account and as such have rejected the claim and paid the money to me

See update on post 18...the story continues......

Dishonest people are dishonest, perceived anonymity and the internet in general allows them to flourish.

Once they've managed to get away with it once, they will try again, and again.

this is the trouble with ebay now it is to easy for people to make fraudulent claims on everything i have more or less given up on it now and tend to stick to facebook groups and gumtree as that is strictly cash on collection\delivery

Selling DLC codes seems to be very risky. People complain it doesn't work, and you have no way of verifying if it has been used by the buyer.
I have cancelled both transactions and added both buyers to my blocked bidders list to stop any further hassle or getting unfounded negative feedbacks. But, I believe I am out of pocket as these two buyers have used my codes.

Maybe I should only sell to buyers who have .. I dunno... 100 +ve feedback, for DLC type of items ?

Re: eBay / Paypal - advice needed

I had a similar issue on two occasions with eBay sellers. - Not digital downloads though.

After my iPhone 4 battery gave out, I was after an iPhone 6 on the cheap to tide me over until the 7 was released. So I ordered an iPhone from a seller with over 200 good ratings, and nothing turned up - no contact either. Stupidly after getting a refund, I tried again with another buyer, again had around 200 good ratings, same thing happened, communication before hand, sent the money over and they went quiet, and disappeared.

I then thought third time lucky - and I finally got an iPhone from a genuine seller.

Whether these good rated sellers had their accounts hacked I have no idea. I was surprised it could happen twice though.

I even had an odd message from a seller, for one I was bidding on, asking me to meet him in a back street by Victoria station in London. Very shady.
