In November.....Henry begun dragging his sled with all of his supplies, with his own strength alone...across Antarctica. He was raising money for injured soldiers. He himself was an incredible soldier.
So many great men and women have failed. The few who have survived have had assistance. Either wind power using kites to help drag the sled, or food and equipment drops by aircraft.
No one has made it alone pulling everything.
And it's with immense sadness that we find.....Henry died trying to do.it....and he so nearly made it.
I think.it's nigh on.impossible for most if us to know the horrific challenge that this task he set himself encompasses. It's not just the destroying cold...it's the isolation. And the physical grinding down if your,body...dragging so much stuff for so long.
Henry....I'm sorry you didn't quote make it. I'm sorry your family must deal with your eternal loss. And I'm sorry I don't have the mettle to even consider such a thing.
But you did the entire world proud by trying.
Human endeavour...such as Felixstowe Baumgartners space drop....and Ellen McArthurs round the world sailing heroism....sometimes comes good. But not always. And rarely is it the fault of the true trier.
You tried. You paid the ultimate. And I salute you for finding the edge and looking straight over it.
