Thought I'd share this photo with you all

So we've a fair bit of kit in the office (we have multiple things we run - www.themediateam.net)

    - HEXUS
    - BOXFX
    - bit-tech
    - PC-Max (Germany)

.... and often people ask what kit we run - we've a chunk of kit in Telehouse, and we've some kit in our office for backups / rendering.

Thought you'd all like it - check it out.

We have in front of you 96 Dual Xeon Blade Servers (Dual Quad Core) with 8GB ram per node.

and a bucket load of other kit.

Everything is running on Gig - with a 10gig Fibre link to upstairs - we "only" have a 100mbit Leased line... .

A few of the servers have bonded Gigabit connections between them and the switches to give speed across the network

I suppose this could turn into a 'my datacentre's bigger than your datacentre' thread so I'll try not to comment, other than it's nice to get a look at the backend - thanks!

Oh there will be loads with more kit than us - without doubt.

We often get asked about behind the scenes bits and bobs so thought I'd share

Benchmarks? tsk.... Depends what we are rendering on the farm.

So cooling, good question we have had a bit of a challenge with it - due to the thermal density in the room.

    Solution... simples.

We have 2 huge 10KW A/C's in the room which cools the room - behind each of the blades is some chunky metal ducting which sucks all the hot air and flushes out of an extractor - we are warming up St Albans. There is no point trying to fight it may as well get it out of the room.

We have a hot box so the back of the cabinets is enclosed - and helps keep the heat in one place so we can remove it.

The room isn't huge - so that's the headache we've had to deal with.

You could use it to warm the rest of the building, especially on a day like today.

I run up and down stairs with alternate buckets of hot and cold air

it's a challenge but without me doing that... nothing works
