Basketball with a 50mm lens [Manchester Magic VS London Utd]

    Hey guys

Took this set of pictures tonight at the Manchester Magic VS London United game at the Amaechi basketball centre.

    This was all with a 50mm F1.8mkII @ ISO1600 on a 20D

    ^^^^ CLICKY ^^^^

    What do you think?

Saving up for a 70-200 F2.8 sigma jobby but Thats £550. REALLY need the 2.8 though cos I'd have to use 3200 with anything higher, and with cropping and sharpening the noise aint too great on that!

    gahaa!! so it is

i think i like the one where it looks like everyone is falling over, ball above th basket with everyone trying to watch as they tumble...cool. oh and the lens is nice and sharp too...very cool

just out of curiosity, i know they wear red shirts and there's a lot of red stuff around the sports hall but have you corrected for the fluorescent lighting? all tends towards a bit of over redness - maybe a white balance thing perhaps...
I like the action you've captured though, and with a zoom you'll be able to get close up, portraits of the intense look sports people get when focusing on the task at hand - which will be great [get saving! had a natter to a bloke in the local camera shop, sigmas are top notch alternative to the prohibatively expensive canon lenses!]
i saw a really cool basket ball pic once of what looks like everyone playing just staring up - off frame - not blocking eachother or anything just staring up cause some nutter just lobbed it way over everyone's heads...looks kind of funny. oh, and b&w sports shots would be fun too - either really dark or quite blown out...

hehe shiato, my current college project is basketball but i can only use b&w film, using this:

Unfortunately I was asked to stop using the flash last night though

Also i have corrected the white balance initially it was all very yellow (courtesy of the lighting)

Looks like someone’s been using their new lighting studio there Got mine on Friday it's brilliant. Great pics, some really nice shots there which literally freeze the action very well. Look forward to seeing more of your work
