    Another sad loss in 2016

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...mers-complain/

One of the toffees in Quality Street is being replaced, ostensibly due to feedback that there were too many toffee varieties. I think we all know the real reason:
"The boxes will also 30g lighter in weight due to the inclusion of the lighter honeycomb sweet"

    You will be missed.

The Toffee Deluxe was the only thing to slow me down piling through a tub of Quality Street at Christmas. My gluttony will be optimised by the change.

Agreed, while not a fan of either toffee, I wouldve much rather seen the pennies go. I consider them the worse of the 2 evils.

To be fair, the truffle-honeycomb replacement sounds much nicer.

Weight is somewhat of an irrelevance in terms of price for these products, as they are costed based on numbers of units per flavour. So if they had a non-toffee product which was both heavier and cheaper then they would quite happily use that. All that happens is that the packaging has to reflect the new average weight, nutritional changes etc.

The most likely explanation is that this particular unit (or part of it) is the only one made on an old line which they would like to get rid of and either replace with a more modern one with better functionality / efficiency or do away with all together. So they rigged up a test to see if people would be that bothered if they removed it and swapped in something else. They then spin it as "too many toffee flavours".

In companies this size plant efficiency savings more often than not dwarf product savings by several orders of magnitude.
If Wisdom is the coordination of "knowledge and experience" and its deliberate use to improve well being then how come "Ignorance is bliss"

Re: Another sad loss in 2016

Those toffees kept me going on my building site a few years ago. Found a stash of them left over from Christmas (cos they're not exactly first pick) and stuck them in my site jacket. Great things, last for ages. I'd have ditched the chocolate finger if it did have to be one of the toffees.

Except they're still making them, just removing them from Quality Street. "A spokesman from Nestle said it would continue to sell the Toffee Deluxe as part of the special toffee packs."

Only at the weekends...... Although I was upset when they removed Coffee Fondants from Roses too.

Although the worst, I mean the absolute worst sweet nab was when they removed the Galaxy Truffle from Celebrations. Wasn't much celebrating going on in my house when I realised that had happened, I can tell you.
