I think stats like those would make people question just how random it is!

I've won 2 forum-only comps, but those are fields of hundreds compared to the likely tens/hundreds of thousands of the main site competitions.

well I've not won anything since may 2014. so its definitely random.

but there haven't been any other stuff competitions for years either. things liker 'funny heatsink placement, ' draw a monster' and 'take a macro photo of something'.

There's a huge difference between 'random' and 'evenly distributed'. I'd be more worried about a lack of randomness if we couldn't find someone who'd won several prizes - with truly random data you'd expect a certain amount of clustering. I rather suspect that Hexus would need to run many thousands, if not millions, of competitions before you started tending towards an even distribution of prizes...

Besides, it's worth remembering that there's several layers of entropy going on, because I doubt each individual entrant is always the same "number" in the draw - so there'll be a certain weighted randomness to the order in which people enter, combined with a random draw to determine which entry wins.

I won one competition once and it was a a forum only one and I have been here ten years(don't know how they put up with me,LOL) - so join in the community and you will have a better chance!

Regarding the worldwide ones,not won one of those,but I think you need to realise loads of people are entering and RNGesus is the giver of prizes,ie,the winners are randomly chosen.

Places like HUKD advertise the competitions,so that means probably half the UK is entering!!

We've had a couple of these threads now. Would it be possible to put the number of entries on the competition winners page? e.g. "Winner: Jim, United Kingdom Bob, United Kingdom Dave, United Kingdom out of 123456 valid entries"
If people know how many entrants there are then perhaps they'll realise why they've not won yet.

Presumably the number of entrants must be available to the sponsor - they'll probably want to know how many people see their thinly veiled adverts...

one of my granddads was from Essex, so I'm genetically 1/4 essexian.

1/4 Essex (near Colchester I think?), 1/4 preston, 1/2 s'port.
