Carbon Capture - how does it work long term?

Lo people.

I sunk under the information when I started looking at this - how does carbon capture work, long term?

I get the idea of pumping CO2 underground, possibly into the same space that oil or fossil fuel gas was extracted from.

But what then? Does it just .... stay there eternally.. maybe leaking out with the odd earthquake?

I've not read anything about it but i had assumed it would, in part, stay there forever and also be stripped of its oxygen atoms leaving the carbon behind. Then again before you told me they pumped it into the ground i thought we had armies of people grabbing handfuls of the stuff and shoving it in jam jars so what do i know.

stripped of it's oxygen... how would THAT happen without vast expenditure of more energy?

I don't have a clue, like i said I'm just going of what's in my head as I've done zero reading on the subject. Having said that doesn't it happen with other gasses trapped underground where there under massive pressure and it's hot, i know gasses can be dissolved in liquids and then liquids filtered through rocks pick up and leave behind minerals and stuff.

So basicaly as long as we use a renewable energy source to collect and tear the molecules from eachother and have a way of storing them we would be getting on dandy t oa healthy planet. Intresting, there are other ways like the chinese air purifier in beijing which with some more R&D would probably be feasable and there is an indian company that collects the carbon with filters to make ink. I think a quick method for us would be to have carbon filters attached to public bins that get replaced on a schedule. that way there isn't any real labour costs just the costs of the filters which can basicaly be reimbursed by using recycled materials and using the carbon for other things. IDK like Zak i'm not exactly knowlegeable on the subject

AFAIK it doesn't particularly matter if it's attached to oxygen or not - the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere is not a problem, and C + O2 -> CO2 is an exothermic reaction. The opposite - photosynthesis - is also carbon capture, endothermic but using the power provided by the sun. I doubt we'd be pumping pure CO2 underground, that doesn't really make sense, but it will be taking advantage of natural processes, perhaps accelerated.

is this is a pipe dream, that sounds ace in marketing terms.
