Is this a bit like the EU deciding they're taking their ball home so no-one can play football, when everyone was playing rugby anyway?
I can honestly say I've never seen a .eu website.
Actually, .uk has been available for registration since 10th June 2014 - although priority for top level .uk versions go to people who had the .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk version for the longest time (as long as they are still registered) - that priority ends this year though (25th June according to https://www.theukdomain.uk/do-i-have-uk-rights/), so if the person with the longest-registered .co.uk/.org.uk/.me.uk version doesn't register it by then, anyone can do so without worrying about it being taken away due to the that registrant deciding they want it.
EDIT: Beaten to the punch by directhex over two hours ago. Oops. I missed that it had continued onto the next page.

Totally underrated tweetcomment.

I honestly don't understand why people keep complaining that UK-based entities can't participate in EU activities once the UK leaves the EU. I mean - seriously - what did they think leaving the EU actually meant? Still being in the EU but just being able to ignore all the rules they didn't like?
The EU is acting perfectly reasonably, by insisting that systems put in place for EU members are only used by EU members. There's a REALLY easy way we can continue to enjoy access to all those systems, if they actually matter to us...
My favourite was a headline in the express ranting about how the EU will start charging us to go there in 2020 to punish us. Not only did it conveniently ignore the fact that this has been planned for all non-eu countries for some time (and thus is not a measure enacted purely to inconvenience the UK,) but it could effectively be rewritten as:
Newspaper that campaigned to end freedom of movement outraged that movement will no longer be free.
