Good news for Star trek fans

Axanar fan film will be made. For those unaware CBS and Paramount sued a fan made film for copyright infringement when the fan made film Prelude to Axanar was a hit on youtube.

I thought the project was pretty much dead until I watched this update video where they settled the law suit.

Re: Good news for Star trek fans

From what I recall, the ending of the lawsuit constrained the length that the final thing is allowed to be - rather than the original feature length film, it's only limited to 30 minutes I believe.

Not that I have an interest in it myself as I have no interest in Star Trek in general, but I recall that being one of the restrictions agreed upon to end the legal battle, which even if I wouldn't be seeing it, still seems like a shame.

I think it has been rewritten to 2x 15 mins. It's a real shame given all the effort and money but hopefully it'll show CBS they can't be the ends of rather large bells with the IP whilst simultaneously butchering it.

I've got into the Orville just recently which is kinda like Star Trek should be, just with the occasional knob gag.

Which is exactly how Kirk would have had it.

The irony being that CBS themselves are being sued for plagiarism in regards to aspects of STD's plot.

Re: Good news for Star trek fans

It’s good news that at least something will be made, I’m looking forward to it

Even better news is that “Star Trek 4” has been cancelled, which hopefully means an end to those terrible new films that were not very Star Trek like at all. (They were ok as action films, but Terrible as Trek films)

We also willl see the new Picard series at some point, so happy days for Trek fans!
