    Experiments in Google rank.

    Seeing as the amount of links to a site improves rank I want to see how clever it is. I link to a friends sites in my sig to help their rank which has boosted one of them from page 38 to 12 on a one word search.

    This is mostly links from Hexus so it seems that google keeps counting links from the same site. My post count is pretty low and i dont post that much so i cant see how much difference it makes. I dont know if the total amount of links matters or how how recent they are seeing as they get buried deep in the hexus post catacombs.

    so if anyone would like to volenteer a link in there sig (it will just be one letter like mine) for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

    It doesnt have to be the link i want to use but its sitting quite low but not too low and the effect will be easy to see i think.

    Any ideas about how to go about this are welcome.

    anyone interested?

    You have 2 links in your sig. Are you experimenting on both, or just one?

    Indeed.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    It is a bit dubious, I have raised it with the team.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    If you want to advertise another site in our forums then click on then contact advertising@hexus.net or pm myself, David or PD for more information. Advertising is not allowed unless you get permission

    That being said, it's an interesting idea but there's more than cross-linking required to get up the search engine rankings

    Does this include any site, or simply those relating to computer hardware etc. that would be deemed competition to Hexus?

    Well, I have a few links in my sig. Are those advertising? Yes, I admit, I did put the image upload one there to advertise it, but I thought it'd be useful to other people, and also so I don't lose the link. The other links are just about the CS:S clan.

    Can someone (David, a mod/admin person etc) please make it clearer what is actually allowed as I'm sure there are a lot of people who have links in their sigs, and anyone of them could be seen to be advertising.

    After looking through the rules, it seems, if its a friend's site, then theres no problem with putting the link in. But if its him commercially selling etc, then I guess thats a problem. So just don't do the latter to be safe.

    Im confused so are NON commercial links OK if they are in some way personnal?

    I only want to use one of the sites for the experiment which is the second one.
    now in google.co.uk (uk search) it comes top for the three words in its title.

    Using just one of the words (the place name) it comes in at page 12.

    I want to see if links from just one site (i.e hexus) have a big effect or does it
    take links from many different sites to cause a large effect.

    So is it ok or not to try this? anyone want to try this? it will only take two weeks i think.

    Right, I'm doing it too now, but if a mod or someone from high up disagrees, then I will not argue and it shall be gone .

    cheers you two, i was mostly interested in the cricket one as that has a good search word to see the effect. saying that the first one is just set up to find out how google works.

    It seems that goodle does index hexus a lot but im not sure how far down it goes link wise. So im not sure if regualr posts of a large post count make the difference.

    the cricket one right now its on page 12 @4 where it has been for quite a while.

    the other one (i dont want to put the names and search words in as that has an effect) sits on page 3 @1. but thats for a several word search based on the title.
    I will keep a list of search terms and let you know at the end how it went exactly.

    anyone else mind chipping in?
