Mean while back at the ranch...

OK, if you are one of those types who can not leave somthing alone once you have been issued the challenge then i advise you exit stage left immediaty.

Where did the TV quote "Mean while back at the ranch" come from. I have googled to no avail and it is starting to annoy me... I seem to remember it in a Cop cartoon where after a scene, some southern american guy says "mean while back at the ranch" and it cuts back to the police station to the commisioner or something - i want to say Batman but the other half of me slaps me on the forehead and says "NO NO bad Purple baaaad".

    Help me please help me.

I think it likely to go back to the '50s when you had the sat morning matinee at the cinema for the kids,(no even I am not old enough to actually remember!) but there often was a cheesy western serial week by week

    Edit
Ooops should have read the link above first!

[qoute]In the 'forties there was a fifteen minute radio show for kids, "Sky King," that immortalized the words, "Meanwhile, back at the ranch...." as a convenient device for changing scenes.

This post World War II drama on ABC featured a flying rancher/detective who was a futuristic hero of the time, very much like an early Buckaroo Banzai.[/quote]
