Well that's Toshiba TV's off my list of future products

"Toshiba TV unveils 2020 range of connected TVs with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant smart home integration"

I so, completely, and utterly, don't want Alexa or Google Assistant on my TV ta.

What next? Maybe Amazone and Google can get a microphone into my socks? Or maybe into my boxers?

Somebody already made Netflix socks. If you fall asleep you stop moving, the socks detect that and pause Netflix so you don't miss much. So Netflix would know when you are sleeping, not creepy at all

People used to walk around in clothing made of leaves and now we get scared of a bunch of people living in concrete blocks when they listen to a few things we say.

yup I do. I don't mind then hearing me snoring in front of a crap tv show, but I have no interest in the TV hearing me discussing bank details with my wife ta.

It's becoming difficult to avoid voice features in smart TVs, and even more difficult to avoid smart TVs (if one should want to.)

    I've found 2 solutions.

    1. Don't connect the TV itself to the internet. If there are smart features I want a set top box that doesn't support voice (we have some Rokus) does the smart stuff. However, they report some things home too, which led me to solution 2.

    2. Pi-hole. My LG TV can talk to the iPlayer servers, NOWTV servers during the cricket and would be allowed to talk to Netflix when we use it for a month or two. It's blocked from all LG domains, as well as their known telemetry partners and any other domains I can't see a reason for. The Roku likewise can't phone home. As a side benefit it means neither can resolve ads to show in the menus.

Are Toshiba TV's actually Toshiba nowadays? I know that Vestel had rights to the name and according to Wikipedia for 5 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestel

Then I read this while checking the above https://www.whathifi.com/news/hisens...ba-tv-business

Wouldn't the voice part be activated by pressing a button on the remote? Rather than listening all the time

Now lets be serious about microphones.. you turn them off in software ie not with break in the cable.

So never assume it aint listening... cos it is.
