They showed something which was pretty much the same on BBC Bite-sized and i was amazed at the difference, they guy died of cancer and they showed that to...really not good atall. In addition to this they showed the liver of heavy drinker compared to a light drinker or non-drinker. The difference there is pretty shocking to. And i agree with what Swafeman said earlier. Words can only do so much images/videos will do allot more to help people stop smoking. They should stick them on cigarette packets as far as im concerned.

There was that rough anti-smoking video on tele a while back, where they squeezed out fat from the arteries and were smoking fat sticks e.t.c.

That was bad - but I think these images show it even better. Do people enjoy destroying their body to no benefit of theirs?

I went to attend a post-mortem exam a few years ago - we all assumed the guy was a smoker from the condition of his lungs - but he'd lived in london all his life - and commuted every day by tube. Frankly - after seeing that (the buildup of brake dust in the lungs) I'm thinking about working out in the sticks!

Even if they put them on ciggie packets I don't think peeps would take much notice. The attitude "It won't happen to me" springs to mind.

Smoking related diseases is the NHS's biggest cost

Diabetes (undetected e.g. blindness and foot ulcers e.t.c.) is the second biggest due to the stay in hospital required.

Don't know the third, but if everyone stopped smoking then that money could be put towards improving hospitals and a mass screening of everyone for diabetes - something which the government has been procastinating on and is expensive in the short term; but cheap in the long term.

Nope. The duty on cigarettes pays for the costs to the NHS from smoking related diseases many times over. I reckon most people who die prematurely of smoking do so in the 50s, 60s and 70s, hence they survive most of their working lives paying tax but don't cost much in old age pensions. Harsh, but true.

If everyone stopped smoking tomorrow, all non-smokers would see their tax bills increase quite substantially. I wouldn't mind that personally, but the idea that smoking costs us all is a fallacy.

I'm a smoker. I know the risks and I accept them. I don't need some "I'm better than you" person telling me what I'm doing to myself when I already know. Non-smokers may think so, but they aren't 200% smarter than smokers just because they made the choice not to smoke.

This isn't particularly directed to anyone in this thread - just people who try to force their anti-smoking propoghanda onto smokers.

I like to damage myself every day by inhaling fumes. I enjoy it. As long as I don't blow my smoke in your face, you can bog right off to Bethlehem.
