Question The year is 2030. What does the world look like?

The world is changing fast, AI, global warming and a pandemic and a possible global economic depression to follow. Polarized politics, growing inequality, rising human population and dwindling natural habitats.

What achivements will the human race have accomplished?

utopia or dystopia, or somewhere where we are now but with better phones, and bigger TVs?

Im interested to hear members opinions or best guesses of where we will be in a decade?

keep it light hearted please, we don't want another thread lock

Population has shrunk due to the ongoing Depression. War in Middle East and India. China is the only World Superpower, and has occupied Taiwan.

In the Western World, obesity is up, but life expectancy and QoL has dropped. Internet service is good, and faster, thanks to Starlink. SpaceX plans to launch a Mars probe in the summer.

    Phones are now transparent plastic.

GRRM is working hard on 'Winds of Winter' and expects to have a release date next year.

Boeing has announced a plan for the Next Generation, I mean, future version of the 737, the 737-3000NGMax8, which will win the title of the longest airplane ever built.

Moose will still be dumb, and will probably crash or fall onto as many things as they did in 2020.

Re: The year is 2030. What does the world look like?

We will just be starting to weigh up the pros and cons of relaxing global austerity, while a bigger debate about protectionism vs globalism will be taking place. America will be in decline having chosen the former while China and Russia will be ascendant and starting to control more of the global agenda, which will turn away from 'freedom/rights' based views to more oligarchic/authoritarian. The UK will have lost what little influence it had left on the global stage and will be trying to reforge itself in the style of an independent scandinavian country.

We will have finally started to move medical classification of illness from 'what the patient looks like/is telling me' to classification based on the functional causes of the illness. Patients will still be able to talk to their doctor for 10 minutes because that's part of the treatment, but the doctor will only be pretending to listen while taking samples.

TVs & cars will be larger. Free-to-air broadcast will be a minority/retro option - IP and subscription based content will be the the main consumption methods.

Windows XP will still be in use.

Re: The year is 2030. What does the world look like?

Too early to even guess, for me. Critical will be the next few months and what happens with C-19.

If, for instance, one of those two early vaccine prospects (Oxford, and Imperial??) works and goes into mass production by year-end, the future will look different indeed, compared to no vaccine for a couple of years, and a long, slow and far more damaging un-lockdown.

A really deep V-shaped recession, at a minikum, is now locked in, and is certainly very bad news but if C-19 goes badly, we could still be mid-depression.in 10 years.

Utopia or Distopia? Dunno yet. Distopia is possible, but if we get an early lockdown exit, then the chance exists to really learn from this experience and make the future look quite bright.

    IF.

(And that is a very big "if")

All it needs is a few world-leading politicians around the world to grasp the nettles and take advantage of unlocking to change things, not just restore the status quo.

Hmmm. "World-leading politicians" getting it rignt? Oh, fu...dge.

If you'll excuse me, I have to go and build a secure underground shelter, and start stocking up on peanut butter.

Still, looking on the brighter side, they mignt get those d3cisipns right .... by accident.

Nothing will change, you could have asked that question 10 years ago and still between then and now nothing really is much different, will be the same again

The changes is to fast to predict what world be in 2030. Viruses after Corona (global warming melt down the glacier, and make free old, unkown viruses) can even change the world strongest to some country out of the best now, or "cancel" the nations and make some global government.

Impossible to say, hopefully greener and quieter. Equally we could be slaves to an overarching fascist regime.

Probably still waiting on TESVI though.

I hope that it won't be full of the following, but I fear it will:

"Contact Tracing Bureau created for Test, Track and Isolate strategy"

    Contact Tracing Bureau?

    Do they not hear themselves?
