A power surge is the cause of the trip switch to knock the power off, it doesn't stop power rampaging through the lines iirc

Dont forget the main upside of surge protectors. If you get the right ones then you can have £££££ worth of conected equpiment warenty. At my dads work when they had a big surge all the stupid things failed. But they got all the damaged equpiment replaced. Totaly Free. And new surge protectors.

Yes I do, got a big beasty (at work right now and it's at home, can't remember the brand) 6 year warranty, $A60,000 coverage for all devices powered through it. Phone line runs through it as well.

Nope, by the time that trips you've probably had enough voltage to fry your pc, the thing is tolerances, household appliances and trip switches have a higher voltage variance threshold than pcs. With all the money people have invested in their pcs I think it is brainless not to have a good quality surge protector. Sure mine cost $A170 but I can sleep well at night knowing I'm covered.
