I'm sure I can find many other things that need printing in my life! I always wanted a full size portal turret....

Yeah, the shocking thing is, until the Meshy build I'd never spent that much on a PC, now even the spares PC is running above what I would have spent a few years ago on my main rig...

I reckon it might be slightly more than that

It's surprising what ends up going missing of kids stuff sometimes, they never remember until one fateful day when they see it somewhere

I'm assuming a fan holder is guaranteed some airflow at least, but yeah I've gone for black PETG. I'm more worried if the post office sorting machines will squash it flat. I bumped up the infill from the normal 15% to 20% for a bit of extra strength

The part is currently printing. Given it's only small and very flat, I figured I would try printing it with ironing turned on. That should make the surfaces that will never be seen much smoother, but I'll know that they are there

If the fans were bigger then I have some clear plastic which would make RGB friendly translucent parts, but I figured for 40mm jobs plain black would be better. This is where I find out it's a white case

It's a black case I'm too old for RGB now, as plain as possible these days!

The part came out looking OK. I'm really busy today, but should be a lazy day tomorrow so I shall post it then.

I can see how fans are screwed onto the printed part here, but wonder how the printed part fixes to the case. Does it just clip on?

    Great! No rush for postage
I think it clips on the top and is then held in by a side panel, looking at the printable page that's the impression I get.

Re: Best place to get things 3D printed? (or can anyone here do it?)

Arrived today, thanks! Let me know what I owe you.

Installing it you need to put a bit of tape/magnet to hold it on one side to the frame. One of the thin retention-y sides broke off but with one remaining it does still hold on.

Thanks again DwU and also everyone else who offered!

I don't have the fans yet, so for now its in the case, but of double sided tape holding it in (right side of pic) and the bit broke off on the left side that goes over the bit of frame.

Ah, did that break off in transit? I was worried about that, but didn't have a small box to put it in so tried for large letter postage.

Now if I had known you needed magnets for that... a few years back I bought a pack of 108 small magnets off Amazon. Smallest quantity I could get, and I wanted two. A couple are holding things to the fridge, but I'm basically still wondering what I can do with 100 tiny (8mm diameter, 3mm thick) magnets

As for cost, someone just helped me out by sending me a gearbox part for my car which as a 1989 part is no longer available from Alfa and he refused to take money and instead said if we meet up I owe him a pint. So I'm sort of paying good karma forwards; it's a nicer world if people just help each other out. Enjoy.

Now I usually expect the first printed part of any project to end up in the bin for some reason. If we get to a third reprint, I might re-visit the cost thing But otherwise, printing is a hobby so it's not like it was a chore.

Re: Best place to get things 3D printed? (or can anyone here do it?)

Nah it survived actually, I put it in the case and when I was *gently* pushing it down so I could put pressure on the tape side it just pinged off, still sits in the frame fine though.

Thanks very much for it, really appreciated

Now I need to sort some fans, £14 a piece for the noctuas seems crazy but I've not really looked properly.

Fan bundles usually crop up on ebay, or try cockers as people are breaking mining rigs etc

OCUK? Barely any posts on there so no access to MM, I'll try a low noise adapter on a couple of cheap(er) fans maybe.
